A training programme has been set up for civil protection and emergency management personnel to enhance prevention, preparedness and disaster response by ensuring compatibility and complementarity between the intervention teams and other intervention support as well as by improving the competence of the experts involved.
What is it?
To strengthen cooperation and coordination among its Member and Participating States in the field of civil protection, the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) offers a dynamic and comprehensive training programme tailored to specific target groups through its Knowledge Network.
The UCPM training programme supplements the national training offered to experts and intervention teams by their home country or organisation to better prepare them for international deployments under the Union Mechanism.
Who can participate?
The UCPM training programme is open to civil protection and disaster management actors from the Europe Union, UCPM Participating States, partner organisations and third countries interested in improving their knowledge and skills on the European Civil Protection.
Eligible participants can find out more by contacting the National Training Coordinator (NTC) in their country. The list of NTCs is at the bottom of this page.
What training is on offer?
The UCPM training programme has a wide range of courses from basic to high-level or refresher training.
Ad-hoc training addresses emerging needs such as training for mass burns teams or for integrating responder teams onsite in an emergency.
Specialised joint EC-UN courses are designed to prepare participants for specific deployments like environmental or medical emergency mission.
E-learning modules are available on different disaster management topics and in different languages, from stand-alone courses such as Cultural Sensitivity and Gender or Information Management to pre-learning for the training courses. More about the courses available here.
Thanks to the UPCM training programme, civil protection experts and emergency management personnel acquire the knowledge, competence and skills to prevent, prepare and to respond to disasters inside and outside the European Union, collectively and in an efficient and effective manner.
The training programme gives access to a community of highly skilled peers ready to support and engage in UCPM operations and activities.
Self-instructed e-learning modules are accessible upon registration on the EU Academy platform: https://academy.europa.eu/. To take part in the training courses, participants must be nominated by their National Training Coordinator or National Focal Point (third countries).
