Community Roles

This page briefly describes the different roles available to the community on the platform. Many of the roles can be occupied simultaneously depending, for example, on the person's background, their function, and connections to running projects, exercises or trainings as well as discussion groups. They are meant to be used flexibly so that the platform serves an organic bottom-up function.

Community Roles on the Knowledge Network platform

The most basic role given to registered users authenticated by the Knowledge Network platform team is community member - who can, among others, view most content and ask to join discussion groups.

A community member who has been identified by the Knowledge Network platform team during profile validation as a scientist/researcher (e.g., by their background, function, justification for joining). It is to provide more info on the person's background and does not grant extra rights on the platform compared to community member.

A community member who either has participated in the UCPM Training Programme or has been deployed as a part of a UCPM mission is given the civil protection expert label during validation. It is to identify the person's background and does not grant extra rights on the platform compared to community member.

Those community members who have been designated to run their Commission-funded project, exercise or training space are assigned as project coordinators on the Knowledge Network platform. They can independently add news, events, documentation, attachments, files, and stories or a start a discussion group within the assigned project, exercise or training space.

If you require support or need new rights or amend existing ones, please ask the official project coordinator to contact the webmaster at the functional mailbox ECHO-CP-KNOWLEDGE-NETWORK-PLATFORM@ec.europa.eu.

A User Guide is available for the technical steps in managing a space. For more info, see the slides of the past webinars and the platform's Terms of Service.

Discussion group (independent): Community members can be assigned as a moderator of a discussion group and thus, will have rights to e.g., add, invite, accept or block users from the group as well as add events or news connected to the discussion group. They encourage, activate and moderate the discussions as well as handle the build-up of content, future direction, membership, etc. per their own discretion. These groups are created upon request and after validation of purpose and added value.

Project discussion group: Separately, a project coordinator can automatically start and manage a discussion group connected to their Commission-funded project, exercise or training space and thus, will be able to add and amend moderators as well.

A User Guide is available for the technical steps in managing a group. For more info, see the slides of the past webinar, the FAQ for discussion groups, and the platform's Terms of Service.
