Description

Social mission

The Directorate of Health shall strengthen the health of the entire population through comprehensive and targeted work across services, sectors and administrative levels. We will do this on the basis of our role as a professional and governmental body. This means, among other things, that we will be a professional advisor, implement adopted policies and administer laws and regulations within the health sector. In addition, the Directorate of Health has overall responsibility for national health preparedness. We are subordinate to the Ministry of Health and Care Services.

Our roles

As a professional adviser, the Directorate of Health is responsible for monitoring conditions that affect public health and developments in the health and care services. The Directorate shall compile knowledge and experience and act in a national norm in various areas. We are also a competence body. In this role, we are an independent and independent advisor.

When we implement adopted policies, we carry out work on behalf of the government and the Storting. This could be, for example, implementing action plans and campaigns, or awarding grants with the objectives set by the Storting.

As manager, the Directorate of Health is responsible for using and interpreting laws. We will administer the reimbursement schemes and regulations we are given authority to by the Ministry of Health and Care Services.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health has an overall responsibility for national health preparedness.

Who we are for

The Norwegian Directorate of Health's target groups are the population (those who need information about health, rights and health and care services) and those who work with health and care services (for example the Ministry of Health and Care Services, the regional health authorities, the County Governor, municipal management and employees in the health and care services).

We want good dialogue and cooperation with other sectors. For example, conditions in the transport sector and the education sector also affect the health of the population.

Cooperation with other state authorities such as the Norwegian Institute of Public Healththe Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Norwegian Medicines Agency is important, so that the advice and measures we propose are closely linked to what others do.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health is also working to influence global health in the right direction.
