Description

General tasks of the M.A.I. in the field of internal affairs

  • It establishes, according to the law, measures for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as of public and private property.
  • It organizes and carries out, through specialized structures, according to its competence, activities for preventing and combating terrorism, organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and consumption, human trafficking, illegal migration, cybercrime, as well as other criminal phenomena and antisocial deeds.
  • Organizes, guides and coordinates the activity of protection of persons, goods, objectives and values and organizes the security of objectives of special importance given in competence according to the law.
  • Ensures, according to its competences, the carrying out of the activity for carrying out investigations in connection with the commission of certain acts stipulated by the criminal law.
  • Organizes the activity of witness protection.
  • Requests from public authorities, natural or legal persons information, data and documents necessary for the fulfillment of the duties established by law and within its limits; may reward individuals who provide support to the Ministry, for the fulfillment of specific duties, from the fund allocated for this purpose, under the conditions established by order of the minister.
  • Ensures compliance with the state border regime of Romania.
  • It constitutes and uses the National Register of Weapons and the Criminal Record.
  • It constitutes and uses the National System of Aliens; ensures compliance with the legal regime of foreigners on the territory of Romania.
  • Ensures the establishment, record keeping, selection, keeping, preservation and use of documents from the National Archive Fund.
  • Organizes and executes the medical and psychological insurance of specific missions.
  • Leads the work of information and internal protection.
  • It guides and controls the prefect's activity for the fulfillment of the Government Program.
  • Ensures, through the subordinated specialized structures, the application of the strategy and the Government Program in the field of management of civil service positions and civil servants, the training and improvement of professional training specialized in the activity of recording persons, as well as the activity of prevention and management of civil emergency situations.
  • It constitutes and uses the National Information System for The Record of Persons.
