An important part of the 2024 edition of the Civil Protection Forum is to offer the maximum opportunity for participants to fully engage and interact throughout the entire event. To facilitate this the sessions will take place in different formats, allowing us to use the most relevant approach for each session's objectives.
Panel discussions
A traditional conference format, panel discussions allow speakers to impart expert knowledge, particularly offering different angles on a specific issue or sharing various tried and tested solutions or other good practices. Following the discussion by experts, the audience may be invited to join the conversation by posing questions or commenting on what has been discussed.
During the Civil Protection Forum 2024, short inspirational speeches will take place in the beginning of selected panel discussions.
Participatory workshops
Participatory methods are based on translating the need and purpose of a session into key questions. They offer a set amount of time for conversation and specify a way for conversations to capture their key recommendations or findings. These workshops are facilitated by professionals and trained Commission staff, so as to guide the process, but not lead the results.
The key questions in a workshop act as an invitation for people to both offer their knowledge and inquire together. Speakers can be included, but their role is to catalyse the conversation and not offer solutions. Therefore, they are short interventions, as a way of sharing what has been learned and setting the scene for participants to engage with one another on key questions.
Web streaming of the event will only be available for selected panel discussions. Due to their participatory nature, workshops will not be available for web streaming.
