Guidelines

These operational principles were developed and agreed upon by a working group of experts from the federal and state governments. The work is based on the "New Strategy for the Protection of the Population in Germany" and the delivery of ABC reconnaissance vehicles in recent years.

The principles describe the tactical procedure for investigating hazardous situations involving radioactive, biological and chemical contamination. They are intended for NBC reconnaissance in general, but have been formulated with particular reference to the NBC reconnaissance vehicle.

The terms related to reconnaissance are defined. The functionality and properties of the radiological and chemical measuring devices of the NBC reconnaissance vehicle are described.

The procedures of limit measurement, immersion, crossing, marking and sector division are explained. Information is provided on driving speed during reconnaissance and sample transport. Examples are given of ways in which NBC reconnaissance vehicles can be integrated into the fire brigade's command structure.

Finally, the tasks and technical and personnel equipment of a necessary measurement control component and the sequence of an operation together with the NBC reconnaissance vehicle are outlined.
