EU medical evacuations hub opens in Poland
The medical evacuations hub will offer a safe space for patients arriving from Ukraine before they are transferred for treatment in hospitals in other European countries.
An EU medical evacuation hub opens today in Poland and will provide care for patients from Ukraine before their transfer to other countries for further treatment.
The new EU Medevac Hub is near Rzeszów, which has one of the closest airports to Ukraine.
Russia’s war on Ukraine is severely affecting emergency healthcare in the country, while in neighbouring countries to Ukraine, refugee inflow has put hospitals there under strain.
Financed under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), the hub is part of a broader medical evacuation scheme launched by the European Union in March 2022.
Since then, over 1000 Ukrainian patients in need of medical evacuation have been transferred to countries across the EU.
