FORMATEX23: Europe's simulated Natech disaster exercise

By Knowledge Network – Staff memberPublished on

The FORMATEX23 exercise has concluded in Linz, emphasising natural and technological emergency situations. This multi-national initiative aimed to improve Europe's ability to respond to disasters.

After the simulated waters rose and environmental threats materialised, the virtual scenario portrayed the flooding of industrial zones and harbours in Linz, leading to subsequent chemical, biological, and radiological repercussions. The Enns Harbour on the Danube was a central focus, serving as the epicentre for a simulated contamination crisis.

Since various national and international emergency organisations and authorities at all levels are involved in this project, one of the most important points is mutual understanding and cooperation.

FORMATEX23 facilitates collaboration among different countries and agencies, emphasising preparedness for incidents where natural and technological hazards intersect. As activities progress, the exercise aims to provide insights and valuable takeaways for all participants and observers. Further details on FORMATEX23's activities can be accessed here.
