
An information meeting was held in Aegina, co-organized by the Municipality of Aegina, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection and the Civil Protection Institute of the University of Western Macedonia.
During the meeting, the co-funded European program THEMIS was presented, which aims to create a strategic framework for enhancing public awareness of civil protection, through information campaigns and educational actions with an emphasis on the tourism sector.
The discussion focused on issues related to tourism, vulnerable social groups, cultural monuments and protected areas, highlighting the need for coordinated preparation and effective management of risks from natural disasters.
The participation of all involved bodies – Fire Department, Coast Guard, Police, Forestry, rescue teams, volunteers, tourism professionals, hunting clubs, radio amateurs and Municipality officials – was significant, contributing to the formulation of practical and applicable civil protection actions for the island.
The Institute of Civil Protection of the University of Western Macedonia, with Professor Ioannis Bakouros as Director and colleagues Amalia Kouskoura and Eleni Kalliontzi, thanks all participants and representatives of local bodies, with special reference to the Deputy Mayor for Tourism Olga Petriti and Special Advisor Nektaria Sarantou.
After analyzing the conclusions, a comprehensive and holistic action plan will be developed to further strengthen civil protection on the island.
