The “Prevention, Preparedness and Response to natural and ‎man-made Disasters”, PPRD Mediterranean programme, was launched in Rome on 6 June 2023.

Multi-hazard

On June 6 2023, the Prevention, Preparedness and Response to natural and ‎man-made Disasters (PPRD) Mediterranean programme was launched in Rome, following the devastating floods that struck the Emilia-Romagna region. These floods resulted in loss of life, displacement of thousands, and extensive damage. With a budget of 3 million EUR, this EU regional programme aims to enhance resilience to natural and man-made disasters in the Southern Neighbourhood countries and the wider Mediterranean region.

Under the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the programme will strengthen cooperation and partnerships between the EU and Mediterranean countries and the UCPM. It recognises the increasing impact and scale of disasters across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia will actively participate in this ambitious initiative.

The launch of the programme took place during a series of meetings, including a high-level conference in Rome. By fostering cooperation and pooling resources, the PPRD Mediterranean programme aims to build a more resilient future for all nations involved.
