The event brought together representatives from EUMA partner institutions, DRM professionals, and policymakers, both on-site at the NIG, Vienna, and online. The workshop featured expert presentations, interactive break-out sessions, and valuable excursions, fostering in-depth discussions and insights into the EUMA Master’s program.
On July 3-4, the University of Vienna hosted the second Specialized Workshop on 'Natural Hazards and Risks within Disaster Risk Management' as part of the EUMA Project (Creating a EUropean Higher Education Network for MAster’s Programmes in Disaster Risk Management). Representatives from EUMA partner institutions, professionals in the DRM field, and policymakers joined both on-site at the NIG, Vienna, and online.
Day 1 commenced with insightful presentations by Prof. Thomas Glade, Prof. Juen Barbara, and Prof. Reinhard Mechler. In the afternoon, participants engaged in dynamic break-out sessions, exploring relevant topics and the EUMA Master’s program. The day concluded with a delightful dinner at the Summer Stage, offering a picturesque view of the Donaukanal.
On Day 2, participants examined past, present, and future trends in natural disaster risk management. A highlight was a brief excursion to the Professional Fire Department in the city center. Special thanks to DI Christian Hoffmann, a graduate of the Austrian OeRISK MSc program, and DI Michael Nikolaus for their valuable insights. After a lavish lunch featuring typical Viennese dishes at Café Diglas, participants reconvened for a final wrap-up session and workshop evaluation.
