Description

The Croatian Red Cross is a national society of the Red Cross that operates impartially and without discrimination on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, for the purpose of promoting and achieving humanitarian goals and programs of general benefit. HCK enjoys special protection and care of the Republic of Croatia.

Fundamental principles

As part of the International Movement of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, the Croatian Red Cross is guided in its work by the fundamental principles of the Movement:


HUMANITY
The international movement of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, created in the desire to provide assistance to all wounded on the battlefield without discrimination, strives at all times to prevent and alleviate human suffering. The purpose of the Movement is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human person. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace between all nations.

IMPARTIALITY
The movement does not make a difference with regard to the national, racial, religious, class or political affiliation of the individual, but seeks to alleviate his ordeal, solely taking into account his needs, giving priority to the most urgent cases of the injured.

NEUTRALITY
In order to preserve everyone's trust, the Movement does not opt for hostilities and does not engage in discussions of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

INDEPENDENCE
The movement is independent. National societies, although the auxiliary bodies of their governments' humanitarian services and are subject to the laws of their countries, must preserve their autonomy in order to be able to act at all times in accordance with the principles of the Movement.

VOLUNTARY The
movement is voluntary and is not driven by a desire to win.

UNITY
In each country there can be only one society of the Red Cross or the Red Crescent. It must be accessible to all and carry out humanitarian activity throughout the territory.

UNIVERSALITY The
International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all societies have equal standing and share equal rights and duties of mutual assistance, is a worldwide movement.
