Description
INRAE, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, was born on January 1, 2020. It is the result of the merger between INRA, the National Institute for Agricultural Research, and Irstea, the National Institute for Research in Science and Technology for the Environment and Agriculture. It is the first research organization specializing in its three scientific fields.
Thanks to the complementarity of the disciplines and skills both technological and scientific present within the two scientific structures, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment aims to become one of the world leaders in research to meet societal challenges:
- food and nutrition security;
- transition of agriculture (agroecology, reduction of chemistry);
- management of natural resources and ecosystems (water, soil, forest);
- erosion of biodiversity;
- circular economy and natural hazards.
In addition, there are more territorialized issues that include the living conditions and remuneration of farmers, the economic competitiveness of companies, land use planning, access to healthy and diversified food for everyone.
INRAE's ambition is to build research excellence in the service of knowledge production, teaching, innovation, in support of public policies, in order to accelerate transitions in agriculture, food and the environment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
