Description

The Great National Assembly was held in Čakovec on the Franciscan Square on January 9, 1919, when it was decided that Međimurje belonged to the Croatian people.

On 23 September 2005, the Croatian Parliament, by amendments to the Law on Holidays, Memorials and Non-Working Days in the Republic of Croatia, declared January 9 as a memorial as a memorial to the event at which the people of Međimurje democratically decided to see their future in state-legal connection with the rest of the Croatian people. The Day of Remembrance of the Adoption of the Resolution on the Secession of Međimurje from the Hungarian State is significant because of its role in the historical aspiration to preserve the uniqueness of Croatian territory.
