The Minister of the Interior holds the highest authority in matters of Civil Protection and has the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, as the governing body for assistance to the head of the Department.
In the constant evolution of the National Civil Protection System, this Directorate General will be a promoter in its planning and coordination between the different actors involved in the field of Civil Protection, both in the Autonomous Communities and the Cities of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as in supranational and international organizations, providing useful means for the management of major emergencies or when there is a high probability of these occurring.
