For more than a century and a half, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been the main guarantor of citizens' fundamental rights and freedoms, defender of public order and of public and private property.

As one of the most important governmental institutions that contributes to the defense of the rule of law, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has attributions both in the field of anti-crime fight, national order, safety and security, as well as in providing public services for Romanian citizens, at European standards.

Thus, the Ministry of Internal Affairs elaborates the objectives of the activity in the field of internal affairs, according to the Government Program and its obligations from the national strategic documents, as well as from the international ones to which Romania is a party, implementing the necessary measures to achieve them.

In the field of public order and security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs aims to achieve the strategic objectives of the European Union in the field of Justice and Home Affairs, as well as to carry out the activities subordinated to the principles and directions of action of the Romanian state policy, circumscribed to the priorities and strategic objectives established by the Government Program.
