Description

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was founded on November 27, 1918 in Kyiv. Its first president was an outstanding scientist with a world name V.I. Vernadsky.

Status

National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine, Academy) in accordance with the current legislation is the highest scientific self-governing organization of Ukraine, based on state property. The self-government of the Academy consists in independently determining the subject of research and forms of their organization and conduct, forming its structure, solving scientific and organizational, economic, personnel issues, implementation of international scientific relations, electiveness and collegiality of management bodies. The Academy brings together full members, corresponding members and foreign members, all scientists of its institutions, organizes and carries out fundamental and applied scientific research on the most important problems of the natural, technical, social and human sciences.

The highest self-government body of the NAS of Ukraine is the General Meeting consisting of full members (academicians) and corresponding members. In the sessions of the General Meeting (except for issues related to the election of full members, corresponding members and foreign members of the NAS of Ukraine), scientific workers delegated by the labor collectives of scientific institutions of the Academy participate with the right of adhesive vote, with the right of advisory vote - foreign members, heads of scientific institutions of the Academy and representatives of the scientific community.
