Description

In the academic year 1951, the High Polytechnic Institute (ILP) was established in our country. This date also marks the origin of higher education in Albania. At that time, three directions were part of the ILP structure: Construction, Mechanical and Electrical. The first rector of the ILP was Prof. Zija Kellici. Subsequently, other faculties were created in Albania and all together in 1957 founded the State University of Tirana. In 1991, during the past system, all faculties with engineering formation were regrouped forming the Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT). In 2007, as a result of the reform undertaken by the Albanian government for reforming scientific research in Albania, it changed the constituent structure of the Polytechnic University of Tirana, which currently has seven Faculties and an Institute for Research and Development in its composition.

The first rector of UPT was Prof. Joy Karapici. His successors in the POST of Rector of UPT were Prof. Emil Lamani, Prof. Tamara Eftimi, Prof. Progress Hoxha and Academic Jorgaq Kacani. The current rector of the Polytechnic University is Prof. Dr. Andrea Maliqari. Rector has a four-year term. He is elected by academic staff and students, as well as appointed by the President of the Republic of Albania.

Tirana Polytechnic University is a public institution.
