The Vision

The vision behind the strategic plan of the University of Western Macedonia is its development into an important reference institution for Greek and European science and culture. Based on its excellence, academic completeness and the knowledge produced in it, it envisions to gain a high position in the global ranking of university institutions and at the same time to become an institution of substantial support for economic, social and cultural creation at local and national level.

In the context of its vision, the University of Western Macedonia:

• pursues excellence in education, research and innovation by attracting, supporting and utilizing young researchers, academic teachers and administrative staff who are distinguished for their scientific interest and professional consistency and develop significant scientific activity.
• claims, through modern curricula promoting basic and applied research, as well as extroverted scientific action, to establish itself as an academic institution with prospects, aiming at the same time at social benefit and based on democratic ideals such as meritocracy and the independence of ideas and science.
• promises to contribute, through knowledge, scientific thought and creation, to the extent that it deserves, to prosperity, social progress and the culture of the national and European area, especially in the Balkan region.
