Description

The project was established on four components which are: development of a strategy document for Istanbul Forest Region on forest fire prevention (2021-2030), capacity building on prevention and fire investigation, technical analysis of environmental change (including climate change and urban sprawl) in relation with wildfires, and development of an exemplary fire action plan for Prince Islands.

The Strategy document and Action Plan will initiate efforts of the stakeholders and public agencies on fire prevention and enhance institutional collaboration.

The project focused particularly on capacity building and training of 10 experts on fire investigation, and hundreds of technicians, and volunteers on fire prevention. The increased capacity with the project will enhance fire management in Istanbul Region and be a good example for other forest regions in and out of the country. The project also produced two short movies on fire prevention and management to raise public awareness.
