Description
The Belgian National Crisis Center (NCCN) launched Paragon, the new Belgian emergency management portal, in July 2024. Its purpose is to allow all Belgian emergency management authorities to share information quickly and efficiently during crisis. Paragon is a map-based interface including a number of useful features, such as a repertoire of approved emergency plans that can be activated and feeds to record every taken actions. Paragon already has over 9,000 users and continues to train future ones.
Paragon is entirely developed in-house, which gives the NCCN flexibility to work on its continuous improvement through feedback, focusing on security, user experience, and expanding its emergency planning and crisis management features.
And because crisis very often crosses borders, the Paragon project stands firmly on its ambition to develop a crisis management solution on an international level.
In that spirit, the Belgian National Crisis Center works hand in hand with their European partners in the frame of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). After a first project consisting in an extensive literature study describing the institutional and legislative situation in Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg, Netherlands and the EU as regards crisis and disaster management, the Paragon team is now invested in the project “IMPACT” (“IMplementation of Paragon Cross-Territory”).
In this project, the delivered literature study and analysis will be developed, implemented and released in the current Paragon platform to enable a the cross-territory use of Paragon and enabling the connection with crisis management systems of the neighboring countries, with a first focus on the Benelux countries.
