Description

As part of the UCPM Knowledge Series, the EU CP Knowledge Network would like to invite you to a session on Inclusive Preparedness: Gender Equality and Inclusion in Disaster Risk Management – Lesson learned from Europe.

Disasters are not gender neutral. Gender inequalities caused by socioeconomic conditions, cultural beliefs, and traditional practices, are behind a disproportional impact of disasters between women and girls, and men and boys. Understanding different gender roles, responsibilities, needs, and capacities are critical to identify, reduce, prepare, and respond to disaster and to establish more effective disaster risk management policies.

Did you know that around 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability? This percentage is likely to increase in emergency situations. Vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, are among the most vulnerable and exposed in emergencies, yet they are often excluded from decision-making processes. There is a growing need to adopt a whole-of-society approach to strengthen resilience and preparedness of all our citizens for future emergencies.
