Distributed to Civil Protection Directors General and members of the Civil Protection Committee (CPC), the Commission 12 June launched a call for expressions of interest targeting eligible countries (Member States and Participating States in the UCPM, Enlargement and Neighbourhood countries) interested in undergoing a UCPM peer review.

Managed by ECHO, a peer review is an instrument under the UCPM legislation available for countries/regions to reflect on their readiness to cope with natural and man-made disasters and to identify ways of strengthening their broader prevention and preparedness system. A review is carried out in close partnership between ECHO, a team of experts “peers” from other countries and the civil protection authorities of the country/region under review. Recently ECHO launched a tool for wildfire-specific peer reviews offering countries/regions the possibility of choosing to have their peer review focusing on wildfire risk management systems.

The current peer review cycle runs until mid-2024 and there are two slots remaining under this cycle. Countries wishing to request a peer review are invited to express their interest as soon as possible and no later than 30 September 2023 by e-mail to ECHO-CP-PEER-REVIEW@ec.europa.eu.
