Description
European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) aims to provide consistent, regular, standardised and reliable information about natural and anthropogenic ground motion phenomena over Europe and across national borders with millimetre accuracy.
EGMS will distribute annually updated satellite interferometric products with a free and open policy. A wide spectrum of users will have access, in many cases for the first time, to nation-wide ground motion results.
However, past experiences at national level with similar services have shown that while this kind of product is appreciated by the scientific community it is not well received or commonly exploited by the Civil Protection Authorities (CPAs). These types of products provide large amounts of data whose analysis is time consuming and hard to manage for CPAs. Additionally, the data interpretation is not always straight forward as it demands a high level of expertise and a specific background.
To solve this issue, the European ground motion risk assessment tool (RASTOOL) project aims to provide the CPA with the appropriate tools for simplifying EGMS data. This will allow CPA practitioners to automatically analyse results and generate maps to support hazard, exposure and risk-assessment against geohazards.
