Goal 2 - Prepare
Increasing risk awareness and preparedness of the population.
To ensure that EU citizens are risk-aware and prepared for disasters when they strike, the Commission will support Member States in increasing their overall level of risk awareness. This will be implemented by improving public access to disaster risk information in an accessible format, increasing the adoption of risk prevention and preparedness measures, and enhancing the culture of risk prevention amongst the EU population.
Flagship initiative:
Development of the ‘preparEU’ programme, a pan-European awareness initiative for disaster risk.
The objective of preparEU is to embark on a public communication effort to bring disaster prevention and preparedness awareness to the everyday life of EU citizens and will include tools such as disaster risk “icons” and visuals for schools and public places, a “European Risk Atlas”, and a “month of disaster preparedness”.
