Description

The Commission organised a two-day capacity-building workshop with the objective to focus on concrete EU-based AI and ML tools and applications with the potential to be integrated into CP and DRM systems across the Union. The workshop targeted practitioners in UCPM Member and Participating States as well as in the Commission.

The workshop was spread over three days:

  • Day 1 – setting the scene: Opening by Hans Das, panels on EU institutional landscape and from innovation to market featuring DGs CNECT, ECHO, JRC and GROW, the Research Executive Agency, the European Environment Agency, UN Global Initiative on Resilience to Natural Hazards through AI Solutions, and two private companies (ICEYE and OroraTech).
  • Day 2 – technical sessions: AI tool providers introduced the full ensemble of the Destination Earth flagship initiative on a digital twin of the Earth, DG JRC’s explainable AI on drought risk and AI-generated causal graph tools, and innovative solutions from UCPM and Horizon Europe as well as the French national system.
  • Day 3 – next steps: panel on the decision support AI component of the Global Wildfire Information System, innovation uptake and procurement instruments, and updates on R&I deliverables under the Science and Planning for DRM working group. Breakout group discussions with Member and Participating States on needs and gaps on future AI integration.

All presentations shared during the event are available here: Panel Sessions on days 1 and 3, Technical Sessions by Destination Earth, DG JRC, UCPM and Horizon Europe funded projects as well as Member States.
