Description

On 25 February, the CENTAUR 2nd Workshop will bring together representatives from institutions, implementing agencies, research organisations, and industry partners to present and discuss the project’s results and its contribution to the evolution of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) and the Copernicus Security Service in Support of EU External and Security Actions (CSS-SESA).

Over the past three years, CENTAUR has developed innovative Earth Observation (EO) and AI-based capabilities supporting two critical domains: urban flood risk monitoring mapping as well as food and water insecurity early warning indicators. These components aim to strengthen situational awareness, increase preparedness, and support decision making in multi hazard and crisis prone environments, both within Europe and globally.

The workshop is structured to:
  • Discuss the role of Earth Observation and AI in improving early warning systems, through a multistakeholder panel;
  • Showcase the project’s operational achievements, including the architecture of the CENTAUR platform and its core use cases;
  • Highlight policy relevance, demonstrating how CENTAUR aligns with EU priorities in climate resilience, security, and crisis management;
  • Foster cooperation, enabling participants to engage, share experiences, and discuss potential follow up activities or uptake of CENTAUR innovations.

The workshop provides a unique opportunity to connect scientific innovation with operational and policymaking needs, contributing to a more resilient Europe capable of anticipating and managing increasingly complex climate and security related risks.
