Advisory Mission
The trend of recent years and the statistics of increased fires in Georgia shows that it is necessary to take important steps in the direction of forest fire management so that Georgia is actively involved in the process of forest fire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery measures.
For this purpose, on February 12, 2022, after negotiations with the representatives of the European Commission, the Emergency Management Service of MIA of Georgia, requested assistance from the EU Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) for an advisory/assessment mission of EU civil protection experts to assess the efficiency of interagency Coordination of civil protection national system of Georgia and its abilities on emergency management 4 phases: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery during forest fires with a focus on the model of the coordination for a response during an emergency.
This mission will contribute to the refinement and development of the specific aspects of fighting forest fires, firefighting with fire engines (GFFFV,) fighting fires in the ground cover without vehicles (GFFF), and aerial forest resources (AFFF).
On May 21-26, 2023, the assessment mission of the European Union, after analyzing and assessing the capacities of the entities of the national system in the country, will develop a recommendation manual, guideline/plan for fire-rescuers and local crisis managers of the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Within the framework of the cooperation with the EU Advisory-Assessment Mission, the State Subordinated Entity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Emergency Management Service will receive the best experience and practices which will lead to the improvement of inter-agency cooperation between the entities of the national system in the country and closer approach to the EU civil protection mechanism.
The effectiveness of the functioning of the national civil security system operating in the country and - the possibility of measures taken in terms of the four phases of forest fire management: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
