Description

Wildfires, with their profound impact on fire-prone ecosystems and critical infrastructure, stand as a significant contemporary concern. Our forthcoming webinar convenes a distinguished panel of experts to scrutinize prevailing trends in wildfire management and critical infrastructure dynamics. Dr. Monica Cardarilli from the Advanced Science for Policy Researcher at European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, alongside Dr. Miltiadis Athanasiou, Associate Researcher at the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DIMITRA, will elucidate strategies for enhancing cross-border risk assessment for critical infrastructures and tackling the intricate challenges posed by wildfires on infrastructures and vice versa. Dr. Emilia Gugliandolo Project Manager from Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. will provide valuable insights into the EU-CIP project for Resilient Infrastructures. Furthermore, Esri GIS Fire experts Mike Cox, Director of Fire & EMS Solutions, and Anthony Schultz, Director of Wildland Fire Solutions at Esri, will delve into how GIS can support preparedness, mitigation, and response to wildfires, fire-prone landscapes (firescapes), and understanding critical infrastructure dynamics.

The Webinar will conclude with a panel discussion among the speakers and the opportunity for questions from the attendants. Moderated by Mr. Alexander Maranghides from the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) US Department of Commerce, along with Assistant Professor Dionysios Kolaitis from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), this webinar pledges an exploration of the critical juncture between wildfires, infrastructure, and resilience strategies. Join us for an enlightening voyage through the contemporary trends and anticipated challenges in this pivotal realm of study.
