
PhD School on research in disaster studies
The PhD School on research in disaster studies will take place from 29 to 30 October 2023 in Enschede, Netherlands.
This PhD school will focus on the topic "Dilemmas and opportunities of fieldwork/in situ research in disaster studies". It aims to engage PhD students with potential challenges they may face during their fieldwork in a disaster related context. Experiences researchers will facilitate the discussions on analysing ethical dilemmas and reflecting on key strategies to strengthen inclusiveness
Disaster studies have a strong focus on data collection in the field with a variety of research methods. Before the PhD school participants are asked to share a document presenting their research and how fieldwork will be involved in the data collection process.
In order to be accepted for the PhD school participants need to show an accepted abstract for the NEEDS conference which will happen right after the PhD school as well as clear relevance of their research project and a motivation letter.
A maximum of 30 participants will be selected to attend the PhD school.
The PhD school is free of charge for the students selected. The school is sponsored by the University of Twente (Centre for Disaster Resilience), the Erasmus University and the University of Leiden.
