Description

SUNSHINE is an EU-funded project coordinated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS). It aims to strengthen disaster resilience across Europe by facilitating the uptake of EU Space Programme data and services - such as Copernicus EMS, Galileo EWSS, SSA, and GOVSATCOM - within civil protection frameworks, supporting the objectives of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).

As part of this effort, the first of four multi-day in-person training seminars is scheduled to take place from 25 to 28 November 2025 in Tallinn, Estonia.

The full agenda for the first seminar will be released soon. It will be available on this page.

Who is the training course aimed at?

Preference will be given to professionals from EU Member States, including:

  • Primary audience:
Civil protection authorities and emergency response coordinators at national, regional, or local level; Technical emergency teams and first responders (e.g. USAR, firefighting, CBRNe units); UCPM National Training Coordinators
  • Secondary audience:
Policymakers, trainers, and scientific/technical advisers with expertise in disaster preparedness, early warning, and civil protection strategy
  • Tertiary audience (if space allows):
Representatives from academic institutions with relevant interest in the subject matter

What will participants learn?

Leveraging a mix of interactive and practical learning methods, including expert-led lectures and presentations, as well as product demonstrations and hands-on tutorials, quizzes, and assignments, the participants will learn:

  • The benefits of EU Space tools for disaster management and risk reduction, and how these support the EU Disaster Resilience Goals
  • How to register for, request, use and benefit from Copernicus Emergency Management Service products
  • How to use new Galileo-based services to deliver targeted emergency warnings
  • Best practices for using EU Space data and services, illustrated through real-world use cases based on past disaster events

Why fill in the survey?

If you work in civil protection, emergency management, or disaster risk reduction, this is your opportunity to boost your skills, gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge EU Space tools, and help your organisation lead the way in using advanced technologies for disaster resilience.
