The second workshop organised by the TAMIR project will take place on 4-5 May in hybrid form, with the physical meeting at Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki, Finland. The event targets experts from European Emergency Response and Civil Protection Agencies and Water Authorities.
It will focus on:
The discussions and feedback gathered during the workshop will be used to assess the final products and to identify the gaps for future developments, in collaboration with TAMIR’s partners and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
The TAMIR project is a European Commission Civil Protection Preparedness project running from February 2020 to May 2022. TAMIR stands for Advanced Tools for pro-Active Management of Impacts and Risks Induced by Convective Weather, Heavy Rain and Flash floods in Europe
The project collaborates with civil protection from UCPM member and participating States and hydro meteorological organisations. It aims to prepare experts and practitioners to cope with bad weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, multi-hazard storms and flooding. TAMIR acts on prevention, preparedness and response to natural hazards and has the objective to mitigate flood disruptive effects on civil society.
Experts from different background work together on providing short and midterm flood forecasting at European scale, with the goal to settle the most accurate scenario of hazard events. In this way, the technical preparation support the local, regional, national and European authorities in the decision process, for tackling the effects of floods in the most efficient way.
In order to provide the most detailed forecasts, TAMIR makes use of European geo-satellite instruments and specific tools, such as the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, the European Flood Awareness System (EFAS) platform, and the European Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC).
