This Commission Implementing Decision of 5 May 2022 laid down the rules regarding the criteria and procedures for recognising long-standing commitment and extraordinary contributions to the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. This Decision provided that the Commission may award medals to the relevant recipients, and should encompass prevention, preparedness and response actions.

The Medals were subsequently awarded at the Civil Protection Forums.
