Recommendations

These recommendations on CBRN sampling (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) were first published in 2010. The results of a study on the ‘Development of a B-sample collection kit in extended civil protection’ by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, based on the federal government's detection equipment, have been incorporated.

In 2013, the federal government equipped all of its CBRN reconnaissance vehicles (CBRN-Erkundungswagen) with a newly assembled CBRN sampling kit. In the course of designing the equipment, the basis for the recommendations for sampling was developed. This book describes the sampling procedure based on the materials available nationwide on the CBRN reconnaissance vehicles.

The recommendations made, serve to introduce and prepare emergency services for the overall topic of ‘emergency sampling’ in the event of a hazard. They are intended to ensure the protection of emergency services, the population and the environment during the collection and transport of suspected B, C and RN samples, as well as to guarantee a uniform standard for the collection of samples from the environment.

This edition has been revised based on the experience gained during practical implementation in sampling seminars and in the field.
