Report

The 2024 European State of the Climate (ESOTC) report, compiled by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). C3S provides climate monitoring for the globe, Europe and the Arctic; the WMO is the UN authoritative organisation that collates, monitors and predicts weather, climate and water resources, and provides related services at national, regional and global scales through its 193 Members, the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.

The ESOTC provides descriptions and analyses of climate conditions in Europe1 in 2024, covering variables from across the Earth system, key events and their impacts, and a discussion of climate policy and action with a focus on resilience of the built environment. It also provides an overview of climate conditions across the Arctic, and updates to the long‑term evolution of key climate indicators.

It is the result of a collaborative effort by around 100 scientists and colleagues across Europe and the rest of the world to analyse around 40 datasets, report on around 40 different climate variables or indices, and review, design and publish the ESOTC 2024.
