COM (2017) 78 final

The European Emergency Response Capacity (EERC) was put in place to prepare the EU for disasters. Since its establishment, 16 Participating States have committed 77 resources (such as search and rescue teams, water purification systems and medical teams). Many of the EERC's capacity goals (enshrined in EU legislation) have already been met.
Gaps, however, still exist in available resources in areas like forest fire fighting planes and shelter, according to the report. The Commission invites Participating States to address these gaps and support the process of renewing and possibly adapting/complementing the current EERC capacity goals.
