The SiLK guidelines are a free online tool that helps cultural institutions like museums, libraries and archives to evaluate the potential risks for their collections and obtain guidance. The "traffic light assessment" includes recommendations for action or mitigation measures.

Each of the topics (security management, fire, flood, theft, vandalism, accidents/malfunctions, deterioration/wear and tear, climate, light, pests, pollutants, severe weather, earthquakes, violence) has an introduction, questionnaire and knowledge base, with the questionnaire forming the core element. The guidelines help staff evaluate their protection efforts and offer tips and possible solutions. They include a wide range of information and raise awareness for the protection and conservation of cultural property. SiLK is available in German, English, and Arabic.
