BG EU MODEX 2025
This is the third exercise conducted by LOT 2 MODEX Consortium within Cycle 12.
Between May 8th and 10th, 2025, severe flooding caused by climate change and increasing atmospheric heating affected most of the Republic of Modulistan and parts of Bulgaria and Serbia. On May 10th, initial damage reports from the hardest-hit areas of Modulistan prompted the government to request international assistance through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). The request included high-capacity pumping, water purification units, boat-based water rescue, shelter support, and coordination aid for managing incoming international help.
The intervention modules from Austria, Denmark, Spain, Slovenia, the Republic of Moldova, and Germany, together with EUCPT and TAST, have reached Modulistan, a country heavily impacted by recent floods. Border crossing wasn’t easy—each team member, vehicle, and piece of luggage was thoroughly checked. Once inside, they began setting up their BoO.
Intervention modules have been actively supporting flood response efforts in Modulistan. Water purification modules from Spain, Austria, and Denmark are working together to supply safe drinking water, with the Modulistan Regional Health Inspectorate conducting quality checks. Meanwhile, in Montana, heavy rainfall has caused saturated soil and overwhelmed drainage systems, threatening new floods. As an immediate response, teams from Slovenia and the Republic of Moldova are pumping water to the Ogosta Dam to protect the affected population.
While some members of the modules continued pumping water from the affected areas as well as carrying out water purification activities, the team leaders had to respond to pointed questions from the local media.
With the arrival of evening, BG EU MODEX 2025 concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony, marking the end of an intense and collaborative experience. The event provided a chance to acknowledge the hard work of all modules and to celebrate the spirit of unity and international cooperation.
A big thank you to all the modules involved—and our deepest gratitude to our host Пожарна безопасност и защита на населението for the support, warm hospitality, and dedication that made everything possible.
