VERA Valabre Exercise

Cross Border Exercise France - Spain

By project VERA staffPublished on

VALABRE and the Civil Protection Agency of Catalonia led a joint exercise on the French–Spanish border to test the VERA platform, a new EU-funded tool that enhances cross-border risk assessment, modelling, and emergency coordination. The drill brought together teams from both countries to strengthen shared preparedness.

Great cross-border collaboration ton the French–Spanish border, where VALABRE and the Civil Protection Agency of Catalonia led a joint operational exercise bringing together SDIS 66, the municipalities of Cerbère and Portbou, the Bombers de Catalunya, the Mossos d’Esquadra, and civil-protection teams from both sides.
The exercise focused on testing the VERA platform — a tool developed to strengthen cross-border risk management. The platform provides advanced modelling and territorial-vulnerability analysis, helping authorities anticipate risks more effectively and coordinate faster during emergencies.
Early results show strong potential: the platform proved highly useful in supporting shared situational awareness and decision-making. Further development is already planned, particularly to enhance interoperability with existing national and regional systems.
Cross-border risks demand cross-border solutions — and this exercise was another important step toward that shared European capacity.
