Daily Map | Türkiye and Syria EU response
One month after the earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria, this map offers an overview of the EU response.
It has been more than a month since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the border region between Türkiye and Syria. The earthquake resulted in significant loss of life: more than 50.000 fatalities recorded, in addition to widespread damage and destruction.
The Union Civil Protection Mechanism via the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Union has been playing a crucial role in the relief efforts, deploying a wide range of resources.
Here are some figures to illustrate the scale and impact of intervention:
- 11.062 patients have been treated by the emergency medical teams: the EU has sent medical teams and supplies to provide emergency healthcare including surgery, trauma care and psychological support.
- Around 30 search and rescue teams, including dogs, equipment and vehicles mobilised from several EU countries resulted in the rescue of around 100 people.
- 6 cargo flights delivered 420 tonnes of relief items: the EU has allocated funds to provide emergency relief supplies such as shelter, food, water and hygiene kits to affected communities.
- Over 20 million euros allocated From the EU Emergency Response Fund to provide humanitarian aid and assistance to affected communities.
The EU’s intervention shows the value of International cooperation in time of crisis. Daily maps provide an overview of a significant event or situation on a daily basis. Monitoring events around the globe 24/7, the ERCC produces informative geospatial maps as part of its response to disasters.
