After severe weather hit Western Europe, this map shows the situation on 8 January, and ECHO’s response in France and Germany.
Impact Overview
Parts of Western Europe are experiencing an extreme start to the new year’s weather, struggling with devastating floods. As of 5 January, the impact of the severe weather has left some 15,510 people potentially affected in Germany (Lower Saxony) and 700 people evacuated and two slightly injured in France (Pas-de-Calais).
UCPM Activation
So far, the following offers of assistance have been accepted by the affected countries respectively:
To Germany:
• Flood containment barriers with a team of 39 responders and 16 vehicles (France).
• Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping (EMSR712, EMSR713) has been activated: 51 maps have
been produced so far.
To France:
• Three high-capacity pumping modules with the following capacities: two pumps (Czechia); four pumps (Netherlands); two pumps (Slovakia).
• ERCC liaison officers deployed on 8 January.
