After severe weather hit Western Europe, this map shows the situation on 8 January, and ECHO’s response in France and Germany.

Impact Overview

Parts of Western Europe are experiencing an extreme start to the new year’s weather, struggling with devastating floods. As of 5 January, the impact of the severe weather has left some 15,510 people potentially affected in Germany (Lower Saxony) and 700 people evacuated and two slightly injured in France (Pas-de-Calais).

UCPM Activation

  • On 30 December 2023, Germany activated the UCPM, requesting flood containment equipment.
  • On 2 January 2024, France activated the UCPM requesting six high-capacity pumps.
