Disaster preparedness and risk reduction at EURegionsWeek 2025

The European Week of Regions and Cities (EURegionsWeek) 2025 will take place from 13 to 15 October in Brussels under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow, Together.” This 23rd edition will feature over 200 events, including political sessions, workshops, and interactive discussions, focusing on three key areas: 

• Cohesion and Growth for the Future: Discover how cohesion policy can drive sustainable growth and innovation across Europe.
• The Right to Stay: Discuss ways to ensure that people can thrive in their own regions.
• Cities Building Tomorrow: Explore the role of cities in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future. 

Several sessions relevant to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) are anticipated, some of them related to preparedness, financing, and citizen engagement in disaster risk reduction, which also involve projects funded by the UCPM:

• Support for regional disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction financing. This session will focus on strategies to enhance disaster preparedness at the regional level and exploring financing mechanisms for DRR initiatives.
• Enabled by design: building risk communication for people with disabilities. This session aims to address the challenges of communicating disaster risks to individuals with disabilities, emphasising inclusive design in risk communication strategies.
• Regions and municipalities in action: tackling uncertainty through prevention, preparedness, and protection in European cross-border territories. Focusing on cross-border cooperation, this session will discuss how regions and municipalities can collaborate to enhance disaster prevention, preparedness, and protection in areas with shared borders.
• Co-Creating Resilient Cities: Citizens, Data and Participatory Action. This session will explore the role of citizens and data in co-creating resilient urban environments, highlighting participatory approaches to urban planning and disaster resilience.
