Environmental Emergencies UCPM support to JEU
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) prepares and responds to the enviromental dimensions of emergencies, including incidents that arise as secondary effects of disasters.
Since 2014, 47 EU Environmental experts participated in 35 missions with the UNEP/ OCHA Joint Environment Unit (JEU).
ECHO operating trough the EUCPM, is among JEU's most important partners and joint collaboration with the JEU has increased over the past years, to highlight the notorious increasing of 80 % of all JEU's missions between 2018-2022.
ECHO has been supporting JEU during the organisation of 5 Environment and Emergencies trainings (ETT).
Monitoring events around the globe 24/7, the ERCC produces informative geospatial maps as part of its response to disasters. They provide situational awareness of events to support swift decision-making and help coordinate a more effective response. These maps are related to ECHO humanitarian and civil protection interventions.
