EU Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change new work programme with DRM focus

By Knowledge Network – Staff memberPublished on

The latest draft of the Mission work programme has been published, outlining a direction for the Mission in the coming years.

The Horizon Europe EU Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change focuses on supporting EU regions, cities and local authorities in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change. Through dedicated calls for proposals, the mission supports regions to:

  • better understand the climate risks they are and will be confronted with in the future
  • develop their pathways to be better prepared and cope with the changing climate
  • test and deploy on the ground innovative solutions needed to build resilience

The Commission has published the latest draft of the upcoming work programme 2026 - 2027 of the Mission. In this draft, there will be a dedicated topic to bring together two complimentary communities: disaster risk management and climate adaptation. Topic “HORIZON-MISS-2026-01-CLIMA-04: Bridging the gap between disaster risk management and climate adaptation” will open for proposals in early 2026 and support the implementation of the Preparedness Union Strategy as well and the upcoming European Climate Adaptation Plan and the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.

The project funded under this action will contribute to bringing together and developing transdisciplinary approaches for the DRM and climate adaptation communities as well as enhancing knowledge and understanding of aspects common to both communities including aspects such as responsibility and accountability. These objectives should be fulfilled by the several actions under the project, such as:

Likewise, the draft work programmes of other Horizon Europe Clusters have also been preliminarily published. For example, Cluster 3 - Civil Security for Society, Cluster 4 - Digital, Industry and Space, or Cluster 5 - Climate, Energy and Mobility. To find all published drafts please consult the Commission Comitology Register.

The final version of the work programme will be adopted later this year and opened for proposals in the beginning of 2026. An exciting opportunity to bring our two communities together!
