EUMA Workshop at IMT MINES ALES Wrapped Up

By project EUMA staffPublished on

The fourth EUMA specialized Workshop focused on two main topics: technological hazards and crisis management. The Workshop explored the role of technological hazards and risks within disaster risk management, with a particular focus on the different types of technological hazards (e.g., explosion, BLEVE), the methods and models used to characterize them and some tools and approaches to help decision-makers manage crises more effectively.

The purpose of the Workshop was to propose teaching content and methods for understanding technological risks and dealing with related crises. These contents were submitted to participants (professionals, operational staff and academics) in order to test their relevance in the future EUMA Master's curriculum.

The Workshop was structured as a one-and-a-half-day, hybrid, and discussion-based event. There were six main speakers, each focusing on the different topics related to technological hazards and crisis management. After each lecture, there was time for clarifying questions.

In the second part of the second day, a visit to the crisis management training facility at IMT Mines Alès (Simulcrise), and a serious game (NIOVELIUS) were organized for participants who were attending in person (in small groups).

Many thanks to the speakers for the quality of their presentations and to the participants for the rich and numerous exchanges!

The conclusions of the workshop will be used to define the programme for the forthcoming EUMA Master on Disaster Management.
