By Knowledge Network – Staff memberPublished on

The European Parliament has announced the creation of the “Resilience, Disaster Management and Civil Protection” intergroup, according to the International Fire and Safety Journal (IFSJ). This initiative, led by Members of the European Parliament Grégory Allione, Pascal Arimont, Christophe Clergeau, and Matej Tonin, focuses on enhancing civil protection and resilience throughout the EU.

As reported by IFSJ, the intergroup aims to improve European coordination in civil protection, strengthen disaster management policies, and increase support for firefighters, volunteers, and other civil protection professionals. Grégory Allione is quoted as describing the intergroup as a platform to bring visibility to the challenges faced by the civil protection community at the European level.

This intergroup is set to address a broad spectrum of crises, including natural disasters and technological emergencies, while fostering cross-sector dialogue between policymakers, experts, and frontline responders. According to IFSJ, it also aligns with the EU's broader goals of inclusive crisis management, supported by the European Commission’s emphasis on resilience under President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to IFSJ, the creation of this intergroup underscores a commitment to building a safer and more resilient Europe, highlighting the vital contributions of civil protection professionals and volunteers.
