The EU and Moldova have signed on 29 September the Agreement for Moldova to become a UCPM participating state. The Agreement will fully enter into force as of 1 January 2024 after ratification by Moldova, with provisional application of this Agreement starting as from its ratification until entry into force.
Moldova has signed an agreement with the EU to become a participating state of the UCPM that will enter into force on 1 January 2024, after ratification.
As a full member of the UCPM, Moldova will not only be able to receive immediate support, but can also send assistance to countries affected by human-induced disasters or natural hazards through the Mechanism, leading to a stronger and better coordinated crisis response in Europe and in the rest of the world.
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been the central engine in channeling emergency in-kind assistance to Moldova, earlier this year, EU deployed 36 power generators to 30 hospitals across Moldova from its rescEU energy reserve and supported the country with €48 million in humanitarian aid since the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
