The survey can be found here until 15 October: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/First-Responders-Survey
Advanced space technologies – such as navigation satellite systems and high-resolution satellite imagery – play an increasing role in enhancing emergency response capabilities.
At the same time, the complementarity between space-based tools and ground-level responders is of utmost importance.
Feedback to this short survey is crucial, as it will help the EUSPA to prioritise functionalities that could be developed to improve the efficiency of emergency operations on the ground. The survey is addressed to firefighters, emergency services’ officers, on-site workers, search-and rescue teams, coordination officers in civil protection authorities, registered volunteer committees that support disaster management operations, etc.
Questions include, for example, how important certain functions are for the work of a first responder, such as “navigation and localisation” (knowing where you and your colleagues are on the ground). The survey also asks which functionalities first responders consider particularly interesting for the support response operations, for example: “real time tracking of responders”, and/or a “possibility to integrate devices/services based on satellite communications”, and/or a functionality that provides forecasts according to evolving environmental factors.
EUSPA is the EU Agency for the Space Programme, whose main mission is to link space technology with user needs.
