Ocean Decade Tsunami Programme endorses NEAM-COMMITMENT DG-ECHO project

The endorsement of NEAM-COMMITMENT by the IOC-UNESCO Ocean Decade Tsunami Programme (ODTP) represents a significant mark of international recognition, firmly aligning the project with the broader objectives of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). This endorsement, in line with ODTP's mission to strengthen global tsunami warning systems and ensure that "100% of communities at risk are prepared and resilient to tsunamis by 2030," affirms the coherence of NEAM-COMMITMENT's activities with globally recognized standards in tsunami risk assessment and community preparedness.

Such recognition enhances the project's credibility among national authorities and local stakeholders in Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Italy and Lebanon. Furthermore, it establishes a direct link to the IOC-UNESCO network of Tsunami Ready communities and Intergovernmental Coordination Groups (ICGs), enabling NEAM-COMMITMENT to leverage established methodologies, shared data platforms, and harmonized early warning protocols.
