On May 15th, the final preparatory meeting was held in the Municipality of Parga to finalize the operational details for the implementation of a tabletop crisis management exercise and the development of a QR code-based tourist information application.
The meeting took place at the Parga Town Hall, in the presence of the Mayor. Key stakeholders and participants included representatives from the Municipality, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the Hellenic Police, the Hellenic Coast Guard, the Hellenic Fire Service, and the University of Western Macedonia.
The "Valtos" (Vourkos) area within the Municipality of Parga was designated as the pilot focus area. This location was strategically selected due to its high density of hotel accommodations combined with limited evacuation routes in emergency situations. Furthermore, the QR code application will be deployed in this specific area on a pilot basis to gather feedback from tourists.
The tabletop exercise is scheduled to take place in mid-June. The operational scenario and simulated incidents will be designed and executed by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, which is also responsible for evaluating the exercise findings and issuing a formal technical report. This document will outline all the necessary follow-up actions and measures to be implemented by the Municipality to upgrade local infrastructure and optimize tourist evacuation protocols in the event of natural disasters.
